it will effectively reduce traffic congestions..
for a period of time..
coz its only a matter of time when ppl get fed up with cramping with public transport..
n start taking cab n driving cars into the heavily ERP hotspots..
so when singaporeans start earning more money..
who would wanna fight for space in trains n buses?
den it would lead to even more ERP gantries..
n make sure the ERP sucks more money out frm drivers..

hahas. i do not agree with that statement!

if the govt set up ERP at some main roads. this may lead other drivers to avoid the main road and will in turn causes conjestion to other roads. so it does not reduce traffic conjestion afterall. lol.

plus, during peak hrs when evryone needs taxis. then all the taxis squeezing the non-main roads. oh man..the traffic will still be conjested. it also affects the income of taxi drivers liao. hahas.

conclusion: MORE NEGATIVE IMPACTS LAHHS! xP

I think ERP has improve the traffic conditions but affect many motorists.... if u find ERP is Expensive Take PUBLIC TRANSPORT! that's wat the LTA is trying to promote

when people get richer, more and more people rather drive to work..
which ends up.. making the roads congested again..
den LTA will have to come up with more ERP..
more ERPs will greatly affect those who aren't rich..
they will take up public transport..
but there is also this point here..
cars in singapore are ordy not cheap..
n if u ordy bought the car last year..
n this year there's more ERP..
den u will be expected to juz take public transport..
n for the rest of the years of u owning the car..
u will juz end up owning a scrap metal..
yet u have to pay so much for it..
my conclusion is..
as long as the ERP doesnt affect the poor..
it would be good to implement for those rich people.. =X

haha...guoliang u gonna be able to drive soon...does tat make u rich?
haha...aniways...
buying car in singapore....
if the car costs S$20k...u nid to pay S$22k in taxes...called the PARF value...
registration of vehicle licence costs abt S$50...
the COE now costs abt S$9k...quite low liaos...
budden ur insurance would cost abt S$500 a month, depending on the car...
maintenance would cost abt S$200 a month...agn depends on ur car..
parking in HDB carparks...season parking costs S$100...
road tax for a 1.6ltr car costs S$1200 for a year...
and now oil prices are hovering at $100++ a barrel...esso 98 costs $1.98 now!!!!!!
my father used to pump 98 at $1.56...now he pump 95 at $1.82...
lower quality oil but more expensive...
so even without driving into ERP zones...u hav already spent so much $$$ liaos...
so having ERPs doesnt matter much at all...
oni adds abt $100 a month to ur expenses...when u alredy paid $60-70k++ for ur car...
not including the $500-700 for maintenance and petrol u spend monthly...

U sure 98 is low quality? lolx... for car is premium petrol already... Vpower all these are still 98 octane... jus tt they add cleaning additives and btw its no $1.8+ per litre its $2.2 now w/o disc.... season parking cost $65 or $85 only....

Dun compare it with aircraft fuel... now aircrafts are going to use diesel that's y your batch on powerplant will learn diesel engine....

Buying a car is buying a liability.... it is best nt to buy one unless u really need it

hoho.. i am back.. just to di siao siao.. this topic slowly stray over to oil prices le.. lol.. the topic is does more ERP gantries reduce traffic congestions..

The Electronic Road Pricing (ERP)scheme is an electronic toll collection scheme adopted in Singapore to manage traffic by road pricing, and as a usage-based taxation mechanism to complement the purchase-based Certificate of Entitlement system. The ERP was implemented by the Land Transport Authority in September 1998 [1] to replace the Singapore Area Licensing Scheme [2] after successfully stress-testing the system with speeding Lamborghinis, Porsches and Ferraris. Singapore was the first city in the world to implement an electronic road toll collection system for purposes of congestion pricing.[3]
-taken from wiki

More ERP= Higher cost for drivers

if the LTA is seeing a drop in number of cars after the implementation of the gantries, it might not be the cause for the drop, as i believe the rising oil prices is the main culprit that affects most ppl, but one thing is for sure.. no matter how LTA adds gantries to the road.. ppl will still drive.. it might reduce the congestion, but the oil hits them harder than the erp gantries.. so LTA is just making an excuse to squeeze some blood from drivers.. and besides.. if the oil price continue to rise.. so will the public transport rate.. so jitao will no difference.. so sad case for the drivers out there.. just hope the world will have a miracle genuis and discover a no-cost renewable energy for all of us.. and hehe! ok.. stray off topic.. lol bye bye

erm...driving my father's car, a week travelling to town in the morning would cost abt $80 for fuel...incudes saturday and sunday...
but total erp is almost $10 a day...if using the shortest distance to shenton way...
means $50 a week...wif free excess during sat and sun...
to get to shenton way would hav to pass through abt 3 gantries...
if each gantry increases by 50 cents...a day would add $1.50...and a week $7.50...
but so far oil increase juz adds to abt $10...
so yea...its abt the same...
muz tink positively...im taking car lessons now...wahaha
